How to Prepare Pre-Filled Syringes for Peptide Travel
Pre-filling syringes for travel: stability data, refrigeration requirements, TSA visual inspection tips, and 3-day vs 7-day trip guide.
Does Pre-Filling Degrade Peptides?
Peptide stability in pre-filled syringes varies by compound. The syringe barrel provides less protection than a sealed vial — surface adhesion and air exposure increase degradation. For most peptides, pre-filled syringes are stable for 24-72 hours when refrigerated.
Refrigeration of Pre-Filled Syringes
Pre-filled syringes must be kept at 2-8°C at all times. Unlike sealed lyophilized vials, reconstituted peptides in syringes have no room-temperature stability buffer. If your cooler fails, use the syringe within 4 hours.
TSA Visual Inspection
Pre-filled syringes look different from standard medication to TSA agents. They may request a closer look. Having a physician letter that specifically mentions "pre-filled injectable medication" reduces confusion.
3-Day Trip Recommendations
For trips under 3 days, pre-filling syringes is practical and convenient. Fill one syringe per dose, label each with the compound name and date, and keep them upright in your cooler.
7-Day Trip Recommendations
For trips over 3 days, carry vials and reconstitute as needed. Pre-filled syringes beyond 72 hours risk degradation. Vials with bacteriostatic water provide better long-term stability.
